So Brands is "coming home".

I do not know why, but that feels so good. I hope it is the right decision.

I applaud Bowlsby for this hire.

Not nearly as "expert" as some of you, but I believe that Brands will soon have us back to where we were. My gut tells me he will eat Cael Sanderson's lunch - maybe not right away, but give him a few years to get our recruit base back to where it was.

Like I say, I think it is a good hire, and if anyone can make a run at Gable's records, it will be this guy.

Like I said, for as much I have dissed the guy, I applaud Bowlsby here. Sure hope it plays out well.   Reply

I would guess that Carver-Hawkeye will be electric when ISU and Iowa meet next season. You really could not ask for a better coaching match-up than an Olympic champion who went 159-0 in college and a fighter like Brands who won 3-titles, had one 45-0 undefeated season, and was also a world champion. Brands has more experience as a coach. Just his name and the attitude that he brings to the mat will help to revitalize Iowa wrestling.   Reply

I agree with you, LP. I think CHA will be "on fire" that night. That alone would make it worth coming for the out-of-staters and considering the weather probably will not be all that great.

I just may make that one. I am sure than, win or lose, it would be worth the trip.   Reply

I was one of those who thought Z. should have been given another year to turn the program around, but once Bowlsby decided he should go, Brands was the only real option. I agree, it was a good hire, but it was also a "safe" one, unlike hiring KF, who wasn't most fan's 1st choice. I also agree, the team should be more aggressive and offense-minded with Brands at the helm. And the ISU dual ought to have an extra excitement. Even if all 3 Iowa HS preps who went to Va. Tech. return to become Hawkeyes, the bulk of next year's team will be Z's recruits, and trained by the current staff. If Iowa wins the title, will anyone say Brands won with Zalesky's team? I hope we get a chance to find out.   Reply

I give Bowlsby his un-fair amount of flack....it's fun........so,maybe,w/ everything that he HAS done, including bring Brands back into the fold.............he has a sure-fire BBALL hire in his back-pocket,when the time is right.   Reply

And at a salary that is still $5,000 below that of the women's volleyball coach. Now that is BS, considering the fact that wrestling at Iowa has the ability to be a revenue sport, and volleyball never will be.   Reply

I also have given Pretty Boy Bowlsby lots of flack on this forum. However, bringing Tom Brands back home was a great move, no question. Even though KF may not have been the fan's favorite, for those who knew him (Hayden, Bowlsby et al) KF really was not a gamble at all. He was a known quantity just waiting to break out as a head coach. LP makes a great point regarding the next Iowa/Iowa State match up. The future for both schools looks bright considering the coaching caliber in the state. Let's get ready to graaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaple!!!   Reply

Is Lisa Bluder still making $293,000? I know women's basketball draws more than most other women's sports, but I doubt it makes money. 2nd question--how much is John Smith getting at OSU? (For dealing with Mocco, he ought to get some kind of bonus).   Reply
