DSM register web site says ISU head wrestling coach Bobby Douglas has resigned and they hired Sanderson as head coach.
Seems ISU has learned something in the last 30-years.   Reply

...but they still have those ketchup & mustard colors!! Actually, I think Cael will do OK, but I don't see a turn-around happening for a couple years.   Reply

Cael looks bored to me. He always has. Maybe less so at the worlds and olympics, but, so long as the comparisons will be made: fiery gable he is not. He is a master technician, a terrific tactical wrestler of course. But so were a lion's share of wrestlers who never really put it together as coaches beyond summer camps.

I think he should instead of coaching wrestling he should try his hand at extreme alpinism. Not to much of that in Ames, but perhaps he can take over for Lenny Zalesky in Alaska?   Reply

Egads, that was a garbled post. Should go back to Lithium.   Reply

CAl can teach the ISU wrestlers some moves, but i think it is too early for him to coach a big time program.   Reply

.... based on Lennie's comments in today's DI, where he slammed his brother's firing, I don't think the Hawks will be visiting UC-Davis again. I can't blame him for being mad--blood is thicker than water.   Reply

I just read this at espn.com. Wow. Time will tell, but I agree with hometown, he's too young. Leaders are made, and I think he would have done well as an assistant to a great coach. Being on the other side of the manager/worker line is a whole different ballgame. In time, he might have made a great coach, but I fear he may be in over his head. Is he keeping any assistant coaches that were there with Douglas? His choices there will point out a lot.   Reply

It may seem like he is young, but he is the same age and experience that Gibbons had when he took over the ISU program in the 80's. If I remember right Gable was about the same in age and experience when he took over the Hawkeyes.
Time will tell. We know one thing; He has name recognition.   Reply
